Obituary

Alice M. Gober, surrounded by her family, passed into the rock gardens of heaven early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2007 at the home of her son, Jack Mann. She was 84.

Alice was born on January 10, 1923 in Riverside, California the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Vanderslice) Bowden. She was raised in the Escondido, California area and graduated from Escondido High School in 1940. she married Allen Mann in 1941 and they had four children together. she remarried in 1950 to Ed Gober and they raised their seven children in Hemet, California. they spent many summers traveling with their family and friends all over the western states. She went back to school to attend Paradise Valley School of Nursing, graduating in 1961 in National City, California. Alice and Ed moved to Yerington in 1973.
Alice was an R.N. and nursed in hospitals in Hemet, CA., Yerington, Hawthorne and Carson City. She loved working in the O.B. unit because she loved babies. She loved doing her job because she loved helping and taking care of people. She also for several years worked at the Nevada Home Health, after she retired from being a full time RN. She finally retired when she was in her 70's so she could spend all her time traveling, being with family and rock hounding.
Alice loved to travel to different countries. Alice and her good friend, Rosemary Dupree bicycled through Holland, and visited Scotland, and several Scandinavian countries and also toured across Canada by train. she also traveled to many of the 50 states. In 2005, she traveled to Alaska with her granddaughter, Michele. Some of her favorite trips were 'ROCK TRIPS' to the deserts and mountains of California, Nevada and Arizona. Alice was an avid Rock Hound and was an active member of the Mason Valley Rock and Mineral Club. There was no road to rough or high for her to travel for a rock, be it big or little. The term 'Rock Trip' only be mentioned, she would have her truck fueled, trailer loaded and was ready to go. She loved to visit her family. Any occasion was reason to go, and many grandchildren and nieces and nephews will tell, that she was there for their graduations, marriages, and births of their children or just because. She loved holidays because it was a time that she was surrounded by friends and family. She also loved to walk and play ball with her faithful companion, Brandy, a dog her grandson Doug found for her.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Ayers (Dale Cave) of Roseburg, Oregon, Shirley Hagadorn (David) of Escondido, California, Janey Smith of Hayden, Idaho and Jack Mann (Kathie) of Yerington, Nevada; step children, Edna Gallacher (Jim) and Bill Gober (Barbara) both of Escondido, California, Betty Hillard (Marvin) of San Marcos, California; Brothers, Melvin Bowden (Barbara) of Yerington, Tom Bowden (Jeannie) of Escondido; her sister, Marilyn Bowden of Libby, Montana; 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
