AnnaBelle McVicar Giomi entered eternal life with grace and peace on Monday evening, May 7, 2007 at the South Lyon Medical Center, Yerington. She was 83.
She was born in Smith Valley, Nevada on September 21, 1923 the only child of Neil and Hannah (Petersen) McVicar. She was raised in the beauty of Smith Valley. Her family was one of the first settlers that made their living in ranching and she was rich in the knowledge of the history and places of her home. Education was stressed in that home and she followed in her Father's footsteps and attended the University of Nevada. AnnaBelle joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and graduated in 1945 with a degree in teaching. Her first job was in Las Vegas where she taught for two years, and then left to attend Mills College in San Francisco to earn her graduate degree in Art. She loved that time in San Francisco so much that in later years she took her family on vacations there each summer. When she returned to teaching it was back to Smith Valley where she met and later married Joseph Giomi on October 1, 1950. Teaching was again interrupted with the raising of four daughters. The one thing that was never set aside, however, was her passion for art. AnnaBelle becoame a noted Nevada artist painting landscapes of her native home. She loved the challenge of using different mediums, from oils to pen and inks to watercolor. Many of her paintings have been displayed in galleries and private homes. During the sixties AnnaBelle developed a deep and abiding faith in her Lord God. Never to do anything halfway, she took it on like everything else she loved, with a pssion. She taught Bible study, invited people to her home for praise and worship, toured the country speaking for Women's Aglow and let the light of God shine through her. She also had a quick wit and easy laugh. she made friends easily and they were very important to her. Her husband of 57 years always felt that AnnaBelle was 'always on the go'. She was full of living life and giving love but mostly she was full of grace.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her grandson, Justin Joseph Lawrence. AnnaBelle is survived by her husband, Joseph; her daughters Joanne (Steve) McKnight, Lorretta (Jim) Safford, Diana Lawrence, and Katherine Giomi; her grandchildren, C.J. Safford, Melissa Safford and MacKenzie Dahl and her relatives from the McVicar and Petersen families.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at South Lyon Medical Center for the loving attention and care she was given most especially to her doctor and friend, Dr. Robin Titus.
