Barbara Marie Bowden passed away on Thursday evening, December 25, 2008 at the South Lyon Medical Center/Long Term Care in Yerington.  She was 79.

Barbara was born in Stuart, Nebraska on January 28, 1929 the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (McPhee) Riggs.  She married Melvin H. Bowden in Escondido, California on December 12, 1949.  She lived in Yerington for the past 28 years coming from Escondido, California.  Barbara was good with her hands doing crafts such as sewing and crochet.  She enjoyed rock hounding and panning for gold.  She even helped rivet and assemble an airplane together the last couple of years.  Barbara enjoyed the outdoors, camping and also reading.  She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of St Anne's Guild.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Melvin of Yerington; her children, Michael of Peyton, Colorado, Richard of Lenexa, Kansas, Karyl Hernandez of Warner Springs, California and Kathryn Bowden of Orinda, California; her brother, Donald Riggs of Escondido, California and her sister, Patricia Belling of Leucadia, California; by her grandchildren, Kenneth Bowden, Heather Bowden, Allison Bowden, Joel Hernandez, Ignacio Hernandez, Nathalie Hernadez and Katrina Gilmore; a great grandson, Adrian Schroeck.  She was preceded in death by her parents and Nephew, Jack Mann.

A Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm Monday, December 29th at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 N. West Street Yerington.  The Memorial Mass will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 30th at the Holy Family Catholic Church.
