Charles Frank McCandless passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2007 at the Evergreen Health Care Center in Carson City, Nevada. He was 90.
Charles was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 15, 1917 the son of Charles Franklin and Clara M. (Oliver) McCandless. He married Olene Mallow in Long Beach, California in 1935. He then served in the United States Army during world War II. He worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California until 1972 when he retired as a Master Planner. After retirement he and his wife traveled across the United States and visited almost all of the 50 states. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Odd Fellows, Rebekah's and Canton for over 50 years. He held the positions of Grand Patriarch, Grand Master and Noble Grand in California, Utah and Nevada lodges and National Grand Encampment.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. McCandless and daughter-in-law, Rosemary McCandless; his grandchildren, RobRoy A. McCandless, Jamie A. McCandless and Kaleen R. McCandless; great grandchildren, Alexander J. Covington and Marcus R. Covington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Olene who passed away January 20, 2004 and his son, Charles Frank Mark McCandless.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada.
Pastor Milton Carr will officate.
