Marilee "Chic" J. Bodenstein passed away on Saturday afternoon, July 24, 2010 at the South Lyon Medical Center, Long Term Care in Yerington, Nevada. She was 83.
Chic was born in Hanford, California on August 24, 1926 to Harold and Vivian Worley. She lived and attended school there for all of her childhood. She moved from Vallejo, California to Wabuska, Nevada in 1948. It was there along with Al Bowman that they ran a ranch and raised five children: Gordon, Wayne, Donna, Karen and Patte.
Chic was a 4-H leader, a member of Wabuska Homemakers, the Farm Bureau, Queen of the Valley Rebekah Lodge, #23 and the Wabuska pinochle ladies. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and talking with friends. The biggest highlight of her life was to gather the family and cook for everyone. She was most happy if she could do something for someone else. She eventually went to work off the ranch at the Thrifty Market; next, she went to work at the assessor's office in the court house. Chic also worked in the county DMV which later became the state of Nevada DMV where she was referred to as the "Barracuda" although she had a heart of gold. She was in that job for 26 years, retiring in 1993. She married Alex Bodenstein in November 1975, and has resided at 19 N. Nevada Street, Yerington since that time. When she married Alex, she gained another son, Stan. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband. They eventually bought a winter home in Ajo, Arizona and enjoyed the warm weather. Chic also was a member of the Yahyah Red Hats, SLMC Auxiliary and RPEN.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Worley, her mother, Vivian Slobig, her husband Alex and grandchildren, Edward McIntire and Deborah Bowman. Chic is survived her children: Gordon (Judy) Bowman, Wayne (Annette) Bowman, Stanley (Sue) Bodenstein, Donna (Pete Grady) Thomas, Karen (Richard Kranjack) Munson, Patte (Ed) McIntire; her brother, Harold (Helen) Worley; her grandchildren Shelli Jo (Jerry) Thomas, Pamela (Rick) Brown-Peters, Kimberly (Charles) VanGeel, Jalee Furr, Heather Geivet, Melanie Bowman, Timothy Bowman, JW (Linh) McIntire, Jill (Jeff) Page, Yancy (Laura) Bodenstein and Nanette Bodenstein; her great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Corinne, BreeAnn, Kenny, Randy, Erika, Alyssa, Kristina, Conner, Cassidy, Caleb, Gabe, Charlie, Alex, Jeffery, Josh, Jon, Joe, Jake, Isabelle and Morgandy.
Chic's Memorial service will be held 10:00 am Friday, July 30th at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. A reception gathering will be held following the service at Dini's, 45 North Main Street Yerington.
