Cleo Nadine Miller Kennedy passed away unexpectedly on
Tuesday morning, March 8, 2011 at her daughter's home in Sparks, Nevada. She was 88.
Cleo was born in Kansas on October 18, 1922. When Cleo was twelve she moved with her family to California, where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach. Cleo then attended and graduated with an Assoicated Arts degree from Long Beach City College. Cleo had worked for the Long Beach Naval VA Hospital, for a dental service and for the Long Beach Naval shipyard in Personnel Services and it was there met Dale S. Kennedy. They were married November 25, 1950 and raised two children. Cleo later attended college once again to focus on teaching preschool children. In 1962 she became a Co-op preschool teacher in Long Beach. She retired in 1972. In 1972 they moved to Yerington, where she started a children's day care and also taught Sunday school.
Cleo was a current member of the Smith Valley Methodist Church. She was also a member of P.E.O., The order of the Odd Fellows/Rebekahs, Eastern Star, A.L.I.V.E., SLMC Hospital Auxiliary, a Bible study class and a Sewing Club and she still maintained her business of selling Avon.
Cleo is survived by her children, Jim Kennedy of Corona, California and Linda Mull of Sparks, Nevada; her grandchildren, Cody and Cayla Kennedy of Boulder, Colorado, Christy and her husband Trent Lochridge of Atascadero, California, and Tamara Pierson of Sparks. Cleo is also survived by her dog, Honey. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dale. She will be missed dearly by all those who she taught, helped or had fellowship with and she will be missed most by her family.
Cleo's memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Pastor Tom Walburn will be officiating along with Queen of the Valley, Rebekah Lodge, #23, I.O.O.F..
