Obituary
Dace Sacchini passed away on Thursday evening, June 18, 2009 at the Long Term Care of South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. She was 83.
Dace was born in Yerington on October 1, 1925 the daughter of Rex and Mary (Lucas) Ricketts. She grew up in Yerington attending Yerington schools and graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in secondary education.
Her teaching career began in Fallon where she taught home economics in the high school. She taught for one year and then married Enrico Sacchini on June 19, 1949. They lived in Carson City and Elko before making their home in Yerington. Dace and Rico had two daughters, Cheryl and Vickie. While raising her daughters, Dace studied to become an elementary school teacher. Once her youngest daughter started school, Dace began teaching third grade and later taught second grade. Dace loved to teach and help the students that needed extra help. She tutored many students during the summer. Her teaching career spanned 27 years.
Dace and Rico were also avid UNR and San Francisco 49er fans. They belonged to the UNR Beefeaters and were season ticket holders for both football and basketball at UNR for many years. They never missed a 49er home game, no matter what the weather conditions.
Dace loved her grandchildren very much, she was a wonderful grandmother who enjoyed having the grandchildren around. She was also very extremely civic minded, she belonged to many organizations where she usually held office. At one time or another she belonged to AAUW, Yerington Music Association, Friends of the Library, Laurette Lambda Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hat Society, Yerington Happy Hatters, Lyon County Museum, Lyon County Republican Women and South Lyon Medical Center Auxillary.
Dace is survived by her daughters, Cheryl and her husband Garey Compston of Yerington and Vickie and her husband Chuck Roberts of Mound House; her grandchildren, Stephani and her husband Toby Enochson, Stephen Compston and Matthew Roberts and one great grandchild, AJ Enochson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rico in January 2009 and her parents and a sister, Dorothy Ricketts.
No service will be held. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington (775) 463-2911.
