Obituary

Daniel Peter Kage, age 88, father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and inspiration, passed away peacefully in Yerington, Nevada on Thursday evening, April 12, 2012.  He left one world to join another, starting a new existence in God's beautiful Kingdom.

Daniel was born November 27, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri, one of eleven children.  Like many other adventurous men of the 1940's, Dan dropped out of high school at the age of 17, joining the United States Navy; serving during World War II and the Korean War. In 1946, he married Joan Caroline Webb - courtesy of the popular radio program "The Bride and Groom' in glamorous Hollywood, California!  He spent his entire adult career devoted to teaching and leading as an elementary school principal in California.  Dan was a devout Christian (with special fondness for his family at South Reno United Methodist Church), and spent his retirement years volunteering for many organizations in the Reno area.  in 2006 he humbly accepted the Governor's Points of Light Award - a tribute to his dedication to volunteering in Northern Nevada.

Dan is survived by his daughter, Christine Payne and son-in-law Rodney; his granddaughter, Lauren (with whom he shared a spectacular bond); his brother, Richard of Missouri, sister-in-laws, Jeanne Stilts and Janet Fletscher in California; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00, Sunday, April 22 at the South Reno United Methodist church (775-851-1181)

Inurnment will be at the Eastside Memorial Gardens in Minden, Nevada.

We offer our blessings to all caregivers at the Mason Valley Residence who nurtured Dan in this world; and onto his new life.  In consideration, a donation to the Alzheimers Association of Northern Nevada or the Youth Group of South Reno Methodist church or a charity of one's choice.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and preserved body...but rather, to slide in sideways, chocolate [roca] in one hand [bourbon and 7] in the other, body throughly used up, totally worn out and screaming:  WOO HOO!...what a ride!"

"Love you"...."Love you, too"
