Daniel Davis, Sr. passed away on Monday morning, December 29, 2014 at the Banner Churchill Memorial Hospital in Fallon with his family by his side. He was 92.
Daniel was born in Mason Valley, Nevada on December 6, 1922 the son of Martin and Minnie (Charlie) Davis. He attended Stewart Indian School. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 102nd Infantry Regiment. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Fern Gibson of Elko in 1948.
In his younger days he boxed, rode saddle bronc and he had worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne.
Daniel is survived by his three children, Charlene Cypher, Cynthia Kness-Hall and Daniel Davis, Jr.; his sister, Christine Neusbaum; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fern, his sons, Michael, Brice, Stanley and his daughter, Carole.
A visitation will be held 6 - 8:00 pm Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Walker River Tribal Gym in Schurz. Burial will follow the service at the Schurz Cemetery with military honors.
