Darlene "Dode" Margaret Hiskett was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Her final days were spent surrounded by family, who cared for her deeply.
In her early life, Dode was an accomplished pianist. Her nimble fingers later assisted her in her secretarial career where she excelled - typing over 100 wpm. Dode's career led her to become a skilled secretary, a typesetter and a proud member of her local 404M Union until she retired.
After Dode retired, she moved to Yerington in 1997 where she became more active in the community. She was a long time member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where she is held in high regard. Dode was very active in Saint Anne's Guild where she volunteered her time as a past President and Treasurer. She also made many friends as a member of the local Red Hats and Sewing Club. She has touched the lives of many and will be missed by all.
By many standards Dode's life was blessed, full of family, spirit, friends and laughter. She was a faithful servant of the Lord, attending Mass weekly and sharing her faith no matter the circumstances. She was the kindest of souls but fiery when needed. You would have to be to raise five rambunctious boys. She expressed her love in food. She loved to cook and bake, making sure that her sons got their favorite pies for birthdays and holidays and always willing to make her famous Mayonnaise Cake and Monkey Bread.
She is survived by her five sons, Michael (Margaret), Carl (Phyllis), Kenneth (Jolie), Timothy (Shelly) and Richard. she also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, who all adored her immensely. Dode was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James who passed away in 1986.
A Rosary will be recited 6:00 pm Thursday, January 5th at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Her Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Friday, January 6th at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be next to her husband in California.
