Dennis's commital service will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, May 20th at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley.
Dennis Russell Knapp passed away Wednesday morning, November 10, 2010 at his home in Yerington from complications of brain injury and dementia with his wife and friend Lottie Bellew at his side. He was 69.
Dennis was born in Torrance, California on October 14, 1941 the son of Robert and Margaret Alice (Venable) Knapp. He graduated from high school in Bellflower, California in 1959. He served in the United States Navy, the SeaBee's and also served in the California National Guard. He retired from the McCleand Air Force base in Sacramento, California.
Dennis the Menace moved to Yerington, Nevada in 1998, after spending time in Cripple River Camp, north of Nome, Alaska gold prospecting for six weeks. He loved motorcycles, cars, big boats, babies and women, not necessarly in that order. His greatest love was spending time and money at Starbucks. He was a hugger and kisser and never met a stranger. Dennis was a member of the Yerington Lions Club, American Legion Post #9, 4 x 4 Club, Gold Prospectors Association and Clampers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sally; his sister, Lynn Knapp (Bob) Orsua; a brother, Bob (Karen) Knapp; his son, Kelly (Padge) Knapp; step-son, Kevin (Jodie) Tarvor; Step-daughters, Heidi (George) Selter, Holly (Steve) Pickett; also by Sally's children, Eric (Pat) Bachtal, Michele Sutherlard and Sally's sister, Nancy (Tom) Dryden; his 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Dennis's Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 20th at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington with Pastor Tom Walburn and Pastor Martha Milk officiating and Military honors provided by American Legion Post #9. His cremains will be inurned at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Family and Friends are invited to sign and leave messages on his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
