Obituary

Dona Jean Rader passed away on Thursday evening, June 30, 2011 at the South Lyon Medical Center, Long Term Care in Yerington, Nevada. She was 85.

Dona was born on October 9, 1925 in San Diego, the youngest of Felix and Augusta Ward's four children. She was a talented trumpet player and while in high school played numerous times with the San Diego Navy band. At a dance in San Diego during World War II she met the love of her life, Harry. They were married in 1944. Harry loved the outdoors and fishing and on one of their expeditions, they went to Rock Creek Lake, north of Bishop. They liked the area so much they bought Rock Creek Store (now Rock Creek Lakes Resort) in 1949. They moved to Bishop full time in 1958 and continued to own and operate the store until 1979. At that time they retired and traveled until Harry's death in 1990. Dona was a long time member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, the Bishop Lady Bills and Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary. Dona lived in Bishop until November 2009 when she moved to Northerm Nevada.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Ron and Janice Scandrett of Wellington, Nevada, grandson and great-grandson Chance and Ezra Scandrett of Reno, Nevada.

Per her wishes a private memorial ceremony will be held at Rock Creek Lake later this summer. She was a truly loving person and will be missed by all.

Arrangements and Cremation are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447 (775) 463-2911.
