Obituary

Donald Austin Boreham passed away on November 7, 2013 at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. He was 86.

Donald was born in Nevada City, California on June 9, 1927 the son of Austin and Elizabeth Boreham.

Donald grew up in Nevada City and graduated from Nevada City High School in 1944. He immediately joined the United States Navy where he served 2 years of active duty during World War II, being stationed in Guam as a machinist on the mine sweeper USS Ptarmigan. On June 8, 1947 he married Marjorie Dixon in Nevada City. He then went on to serve an additional 4 years as a reservist and was discharged in 1951, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class.

He began work for the Miners Foundry in Nevada City as a machinist where he worked for 5 years. For a short time in 1952 he moved his young family to Sacramento to begin work with Southern Pacific Railroad, after little more than a year he moved his growing family to Weed Heights where he began work as a machinist for Anaconda Mining Company. For 14 years he worked and raised his family in Weed Heights until the strike of 1967 when he left the mine to go to work for Sierra Pcific Power Company. It was at this time that he moved his family three miles down the hill to Yerington. He retired in January 1990 after 22 years with the power company.

Donald and Marjorie were happily married for 66 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, he enjoyed camping, fishing and tinkering with just about anything mechanical, but most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his daughters, Julie (Fred) Jones, Cheryl (Dennis) Creedon, Donna McGill and his son, Duane (Michele) Boreham; his brothers, Lawrence (Diane) Boreham, Melvin (Cathy) Boreham; his 10 grandchildren, Sandra, Michael, Michael, Paula, Randal, Eric, Michael, Trey, Sianne and Austin; also his 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will be greeting family and friends at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2013 for a memorial service at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. A fellowship will follow the service at the Mason Valley Boys & Girls Club.
