Duane Larson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Renown Hospital in Reno, NV following a brief illness.

Duane was born in Harvey, ND on October 1, 1933, the son of Emil & Edna (Petzke) Larson. Duane grew up in Heimdal, ND with his brother and little sister. He married Katherine Rice on October 25, 1959 in Maddock, ND.

Duane attended Concordia College in Minnesota, achieving a BA in mathematics. He worked briefly for Dunn & Bradstreet in Minneapolis, MN. In 1960, Duane and Kathy moved to Fargo, ND to pursue a pharmacy degree at NDSU. It was there they met their lifelong friends Clair and Shirley Foien. After graduation both families, including toddlers Julie and Brad moved to Washington State. The two families remained very close over the next 56 years.

Duane & Kathy moved to Goldendale, WA in November 1969, with their four daughters. They bought Pike's Pharmacy and began their lifelong adventure of owning Larson Drug Inc. They had a thriving business for many years and had such wonderful people working for them. After 30 years they decided to retire.

Duane and Kathy bought a house in Yerington, NV in 2000. Their daughter Liz and husband Tim had moved to Yerington in 1999. They would spend the winters in Yerington to be closer to granddaughters, Chloe and Rachel. The girls loved having their Gramma and Papa Lovey so close. They moved to Yerington permanently in 2012.

Duane enjoyed golfing, traveling, cribbage and baseball, but mostly watching the Boston Red Sox! He loved them since he was young and went to Fenway Park after Allison and family moved to Boston. Dad was in Boston in 2004, visiting Allison when the Red Sox finally won the first World Series in his lifetime. Papa Lovey even got his granddaughter, Rachel hooked on the Red Sox.

Duane is survived by his four daughters, Julie and Dave Dolan of Seattle, Jennie Larson and Laura Wong of Santa Rosa, CA, Allison Burruss of Millis, MA, and Liz and Tim Dane of Yerington, NV. Sister Lynda & Galen Whipple of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren Keely Dolan, Amelia and Carter Burruss and Chloe and Rachel Dane, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Duane is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (just 4 months ago); his parents, Emil and Edna and brother Leslie Larson.

A celebration of life is planned for both of our parents in October 2017, in Goldendale, WA.

We love and miss our dad so much, but we know he missed his Lovey and they are together again.
