Eleanor L. Monahan 'Ellie' as many knew her, passed away at her home in Yerington, Nevada on January 1, 2013. She was 73.
Ellie was born in Los Angeles, California on October 11, 1939 the daughter of Harold and Katherine (Gelhard) Brown. She was the ninth child of eleven.
Ellie set out in life with a few goals, one was she wanted to marry the man of her dreams and when she was 17 she met that man, Wayne Monahan. He was a Sailor and reminded her of Popeye. She met him double dating with her older sister Mary and both her and her sister set out on a mission. While Wayne and the man that was his good friend and boyfriend to her sister, Mary were off sailing in the Navy, Ellie planed out her future and asked Wayne to marry her and he often jokes that "if she wouldn't of asked him 55 years ago he would still be single" well he said yes and when his ship came in, they had a double July wedding in 1957" He swept her off her feet and they were off to Honeymoon in Redlands California after the car broke down.
The family had moved to Minnesota and after getting tired of the cold they decided to move back to Los Angeles, California. After few years they moved to Alaska, and after eating some moose and experiencing some more cold they moved back to sunny California. After getting tired of California they deceided to move to Nevada.
Ellie enjoyed gardening and homemaking and was a wonderful Grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her sons, Wayne S.and his wife, Maria Monahan, Daniel J. and his wife, Judy Monahan; her brother, Arthur Brown and brother-in-laws, Bill Aldreide, Bob Bellig and Dave Bechtel; her sisters, Shirley Bechtel, Pat Rusher, Gertrude Stone and sister-in-laws, Agnes Monahan and Alice Brown; her 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellie's Rosary service will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 9th at Holy Family Catholic Church which will be followed at 11:00 am the Memorial Funeral Mass. Her cremated remains will be buried at the family plot at Valley View Cemetery. A lunch will be served at the Catholic Center following the Funeral Mass.
