Obituary

Ernest Charles Page "Ernie" passed away on July 4, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Reno NV. He was 89 years old.

Ernie was born in Benton Township Michigan on September 15, 1930. He was one of 15 children born to Ray and Mary (Smith) Page. Although he was a twin, his brother Harold did not survive. He died at birth. Ernie had the distinction of being the seventh son of a seventh son. He was very musical. He sang and taught himself how to play the guitar, harmonica, piano, accordion and he also yodeled.
Ernie joined the Navy at 16 years of age and at 17 was shipped out on the USS Stickel at the outbreak of the Korean War. He traveled the world! While in the Navy he met his future wife of 66 years, Roslyn Eloise Whitaker. They met on Christmas day in 1948. They fell in love and in 1950 the couple eloped to Las Vegas Nevada and were married. After Ernie was discharged from the Navy the couple moved to Pasadena California. Ernie got a job at Hoffman Electronics were he worked for 23 years. He was a hard worker and would eventually become a quality control inspector with his own department. The couple soon had three children, Victoria, Ernest II and Geoffrey. Eventually, Ernie was able to buy a large home in Altadena Ca.  Ernie enjoy being a homeowner. He loved working in the yard and doing odd jobs around the house. He painted the three-story house twice, reroofed it himself and dug a 200 foot sewer line by hand. In 1976 after Eloise's parents moved to Yerington Nevada, Ernie and Eloise thought maybe they would like living in the country too. So, they sold their big house and made the move! Their adult children also, decided to move to Yerington. Soon, Ernie started working at Anaconda Copper. He loved the country life. He planted a large vegetable garden every year. Almost all of the vegetables were given to friends and family. Ernie was proud of his 32 pound watermelon he grew one year.
Ernie's friends and family will remember him as a hard-working, outgoing, friendly person. He "never knew a stranger", as the saying goes. He was a generous person, always helping his friends who were in need.
After Anaconda Copper permanently closed, Ernie was hired at Nevada's Cement. There he would work until he retired at age 65. After "retiring", Ernie started a lawn mowing and gardening business. Always keeping busy.
Ernie's greatest accomplishment in life was being a wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren. He was a very loving grandpa and his grandchildren adored him. He spent many long hours with them, teaching them gardening and other skills. Mostly having fun with them. The grandkids loved spending time with "Grandpa". They especially remember rides in Grandpa's old truck. His grandkids loved riding to the dump in the old truck and singing their special "dump" song all the way!

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Eloise. He was survived by his two younger brothers Denny and Roger. Also, survived by his three children Victoria (Harry) Ernest II (Dora), Geoffrey and his loving grandchildren, Scott (Suzanne), Corey (Hilda), Carmen (Jesse), Jeremy (Anna), Bryan (Melissa), Cort (Diana), Shane (Jennifer), Rebekah; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Miley, Ashlynne, Eliese, Skylar, Elijah and Luke; and great-great granddaughter Alis.

Ernie was buried on July 10th at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Because of COVID-19 it was a private service with just family.  Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
Arrangements were under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447 (775) 463-2911
