Esperanza "Espe" Shafer passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2007 at the South Lyon Medical Center. She was 79.
Espe was born on December 15, 1928 in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico the daughter of Gregorio and Maria Rodriguez. She graduated from high school in Quebradillas. She met the love of her life Clarence R. Shafer in Berkley, California at a dance. The couple married in San Francisco, California at St. Emeydus Catholic Church on June 17, 1961. Espe continued with her schooling and received her AA degree with honors from Ohlone College in Fremont, California. Espe's career was full of excitement, energy and joy just like her. Espe's love for helping others ranged from working at school as an Aide in Kindergarten, to being the Administrator of the Senior Citzens Center for Activities. Espe loved the dances she had for 'her' seniors. Espe was a very active member of St. Gall's Catholic Church. They had lived in Yerington for the past few years.
Espe is survived by her husband, Clarence; son, John Shafer; a Daughter and her husband, Ann Marie and Kurt Naswall; her grandchildren, Thomas Russell Naswall, Rachael Marie Naswall and Victoria Jacquin Shafer. Espe who loved life, family and friends will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007 at St Galls Catholic Church 1343 Centerville Lane Gardnerville, at 1:00 pm, with a Rosary following at 1:30 pm and the Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm, with Father Paul McCollum officiating.
