Obituary

Estella Thompson was born November 14, 1929 at the Fallon Ranch, now known as the Flying M Ranch, the daughter of Joe and Adeline Harry Thompson. She was the youngest of 4 sisters and one brother. She passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015.

She attended the Walker river School at the Fallon Ranch (this school now sits at the Lyon county Museum). When she started high school she moved to Yerington to live with her sister, Thelma. She graduated from Yerington High School in 1948. After high school she worked for various families in Mason Valley as a housekeeper and cook. At times, she would return to the ranch and found work there. She worked for Mrs. Murphy at the main headquarters who she become close with. when the Murphy's purchased the ranch it became the Flying M Ranch. In 1960 she moved back to Yerington and began working for the Pete and Gina Perry at the Yerington Hotel and bar as a housekeeper. She also took care of the old theater on main street and also the old drive-in. In 1964 she again moved back to the ranch and worked for Henry Tyree as his housekeeper. she also cooked for the ranch hands and with her parents aging she was taking care of them.

Estella enjoyed fishing, picking pine nuts and driving around with her sister, Thelma, going to yard sales, playing poker at Casino West. As she aged things became harder and she needed more assistance to get around. In the early years she had a Kodak Box Camera and took many pictures of her family that is treasured today.
She was a kind and gentle person and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Thompson, son, Vernon Rogers, jr.; four grandchildren, Jamie Thompson, Jay Trujillo, Joe and Renee Rogers; seven great grandchildren, Dakota and Chae Thompson. Alyssa and Isaiah Rogers, Landon Trujillo, Jace Saulque and Jayden Williams; by a cousin, Ira Salvini and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Dorothy Quick, Melba Christensen, Thelma Thompson, Kathleen Thompson; her brother, Joe Thompson,Jr; two great grandchildren, Sydney and Tristan Thompson, Nephews, Bill Lovett, Bill Lovett Jr., Terry Thompson, Howard Quick, William Quick, David Christensen, David Morris and nieces, Charlotte Credle and Wanda Kurtek.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Yerington Paiute Tribe Community Center. Her cremated remains will be taken back to the old Thompson Homestead.
