Eugene 'Gene' Steik passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in Yerington, Nevada. He was 83.
Gene was born in Bellflower, California on Setpember 22, 1927 one of seven children of Joseph and Rose Steik.
Gene had served in the U. S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He and his family moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1963. Gene retired from the US Postal service as a letter carrier in 1984 after 36 years of service. In 1995 he and his wife, Bev, happily settled in Yerington.
He was hardworking, kind and generous. Gene was a devoted family man whose family was everything to him. Other than his family, the joys of his life were fishing, gambling, gardening, dogs, food and wine, his daily walks and sports. Anyone who knew Gene knew his passion for the Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Irish of Norte Dame. He will be missed immeasureably but his spirit lives on, as does his families enduring love and forever gratitude.
Gene is survived by his son, Stanley Steik and his wife, Deborah Bock of Tucson, Arizona; his daughter, Terri Steik Roeser and her husband, Michael Roeser of Zephyr Cove, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents and by the love of his life, his wife for more than 50 years, Beverly.
In keeping with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation was under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV.
Family and friends are invited to sign his guest book or send a sympathy card to his children at www.FRFH.net.
