Obituary
Eugene 'Gene' Marcellus Adrian passed away in Sparks on Monday, February 13, 2017. He was 98.
Gene was born November 26, 1918 the son of Eugene and Anna Adrian.
His adventurous spirit took him many places including the Galapagos Islands working on a tune fishing boat and rafting down the Yukon River with his buddy with only a fishing pole and a .22 pistol to live off the land. He attended the University of Alaska and in 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was discharged in 1946. While in the service he had a pen pal named Helen and after the service he returned to Hipass, CA and met his pen pal. They immediately fell in love and were married on March 3, 1946. they moved back to Alaska so gene could finish college. It was there he built his first house. He graduated with a degree in Geology/Mining. His degree allowed him to work around the world including Peru, New Guinea, Nebraska, Iowa, California and Nevada.
Gene and Helen settled in Yerington in 1962 where he built his second and third houses and here for the next 55 years. His life's passion was prospecting for gold in the hills surrounding Mason Valley. He avidly followed this interest until he suffered a stroke at the age of 91.
He is survived by his one and only true love Helen his wife of 70 years; his son John (Shelly); his daughter, Joanne; his grandchildren, Leslie, Larry, John, Renee, Shellie, Landi, Megan, Tina, and Jennifer and his 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and his daughter, Therese. Gene was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and brother.
A funeral Mass will be held 11:30 am Saturday, March 4 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 103 N. west Street Yerington with burial at the Valley View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the Catholic Center.
