Obituary

Gary Lee Stephens passed away on Friday evening, January 17, 2014 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. He was 73.

Gary was born in The Dalles, Oregon on July 22, 1940 the son of Dwayne and Ivolene (Brumbach) Stephens.

Gary grew up in Oregon and after graduation from high school he joined the U.S. Navy. He served for over 20 years, he was an Armed Helicopter Crew Chief during the Vietnam War.

After his retirement from the Navy, Gary moved to Idaho to take care of his Mother. In the early 1990's he moved to Yerington. Gary enjoyed fishing, camping and playing golf many things that he did with his brother, Ron. He also had a great passion for his motorcycle. He was also a Girl Scout Camp counselor known by the girls as Mr. Gary.

Gary is survived by his sister-in-law, Kathleen Stephens; his four nieces, Claire Stottlemeyer, Paulette Fryer, Elizabeth and her husband Peter Mortola and Jennifer Stephens. He is also survived by his very close friend, Madeleine. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary's services will be held with his brother's, Ronald. A Rosary will be held 6:00 pm Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. The Memorial Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, November 21 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be 2:00 pm at Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley .
