Obituary

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our incredible husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, uncle, friend and coach. George Prescott Ostrander lost his very courageous battle to cancer on August 23, 2009. George's death, as in life, was surrounded by the most incredible love of family and friends. George was born January 18, 1948 the son of George and Patricia Ostrander in Los Angles, California, however he has called Yerington home since the very young age of 3.

Early in George's life he worked at Hawthorne ammunition base and then Sierra Pacific Power Company. Although, to spend more time with his family he dedicated endless hours to attain his real estate/broker license, and for the past 27 years he owned and operated Sunrise Realty. His final career path, the most fulfilling of all jobs, accommodated the many loves that brought joy and happiness to his life, family and friends, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, camping, coaching, cruising and practical jokes. George was a pillar in the community of Yerington as he gave endless hours to many organizations. Lifetime member of the Lions' club, City Council, National Guard, coaching Little League, senior league and finally 21 years as the head coach for the Yerington High School Lions baseball team, he was instrumental and commited to the Josh Farler Helping Hands Foundation with the purpose of raising money for families in need as they too battle cancer. In his very short 61 years of life George not only devoted insurmountable time to others he did cherish a few personal accomplishments: a hole in one, Coach of the Year, and a fierce loyalty to his family and friends.

George's love affair with his beautiful wife, Sherilyn started in Weed Heights and continued strong with them recently celebrating 40 years of marriage. This marriage produced two wonderful and devoted children, Sherilyn Rae (Sean) Elliott, Glenn Marcus (Sabrina) Ostrander and 3 adorable grandsons, Aidan, Gavynn and Garytt. George is also survived by his Mother, Patricia Ostrander; Sisters, Sharon Cox, Angeli (Doug) Summerville and Melody (Hazen) Adams. He also has numerous family members and friends who dearly love him.

George is loved deeply by so many people as he has genuinely touched and changed so many lives. We are truly heart broken and will miss him every day for the rest of our lives.

The family request that donations be made in his name to either Josh Farler Helping Hands Foundation PO Box 73 Yerington, NV 89447 or the Yerington Lions Club, George Ostrander Memorial Scholarship PO Box 25 Yerington, NV 89447.

George's memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday at the Yerington Intermediate Gym 114 Pearl Street in Yerington. A fellowship will follow the service at the Weed Heights Gazebo.
