Gerald Leland Madden passed away Thursday evening, January 8, 2009 at the South Lyon Medical Center-Long Term Care in Yerington, Nevada. He was 92.

Gerald was born in Halfa, Iowa on July 14, 1916 the son of George W. and Alta (Kohl) Madden. He graduated from Halfa High School in 1934 and chose farming as his career. He married Lois Kraemer in Alta, Iowa on June 14, 1940. They had farmed in Armstrong and Ringstad, Iowa. They moved to Yerington, Nevada in 1950 seeking a dryer climate for health reasons. Gerald did carpenter work and also was a grocer for a few years. He then worked as an Engineer Tech for the Department of Agriculture from which he retired from after many years. He and his wife loved to travel and they visited many places in the United States, Mexico, Canada and flying to many foreign countries. Gerald also enjoyed fishing and cars.

Gerald is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Lois; his two children, Ann and her husband Harry Smith and John and his wife Bonita Madden; two granddaughters, Erica and her husband Mike and Hallie and her husband Seth; and two great granddaughters, Abigail and Audrey, his brother, Lloyd Madden of Armstrong, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Loren and sister, Vivian.

In keeping with his wishes no local Memorial service will be held, however, a graveside service will be held at a later date in Armstrong, Iowa. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada.
