Glendeen was born September 09,1940 in Elmira, NY. Chemung County. She was the only daughter to Sister Ann Comfort and adopted by Harry Bert Wheat and Lucille Wheat around the age of three.
She resided in Elmira, New York until March 1966 after her father passed away. Glendeen, her mother Ann and Glendeen's two daughters moved to Santa Barbra County to be with her brother Victor Ayres where she worked, made life long friends and enjoyed living near her immediate family.
She relocated to Yerington in 1972 where she became a long time resident joined by her two brothers and their families. She was employed at the Owl Club, Topaz Lodge and eventually Dini's Lucky Club as a bartender. She was a strong independent women, not afraid to follow her heart. She enjoyed crafting with her family, she had a passion for horses and when younger enjoyed riding them. She had a deep connection and respect for the local Native American culture. Her grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members enjoyed spending their younger days being taught many life skills by her such as sewing, cooking and knitting. One of her favorite things to do with all family was an annual trip to Fort Churchill for a picnic and a crafting project.
Glendeen had a big heart and as long as she was able to give and help others she was happy. On August 18, 2000 Glendeen started Robert Ayres Memorial Toy Drive, Inc. in memory of her late brother. Her
non-profit organization operated for years and provided Christmas for many children. She had many friends and loved ones that she called family, and they knew her as mom, grandma and Aunt Glendeen. Once you knew her you were a part of her family forever. She provided a loving home for anyone in need.
Glendeen was proceeded in death by her mother, Sister Ann Comfort, adopted mother Lucille Wheat, Father Harry Wheat, Brothers Victor Ayres, Robert Ayres, Daughter Vikki Andrews and sister in law Harriet Ayres. Survived by Daughters Sonja Remaley, Tiffanie Collins, grandsons Grant and Darryl Remaley, Duggan Remaley, Kenny Studley, grandaughters Roni Stanton, Lorna Thomas, Tara Andrews, Nicole Andrews, Rachel Arrington, Jasper Isenberg, Jennifer Mason and Janise Studley. As well as many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and adopted grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 18th at the Freitas Rupracht funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington.
