IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glenn
Stark
August 7, 1930 – August 19, 2020
Glenn M. Stark died on August 19, 2020, at Sierra Ridge due to complications after breaking his hip on July 29, 2020. He was ninety years old.
Glenn M. Stark was born in Ada, Minnesota, and was the youngest of four children born to Bert and Dianitia Stark. The family moved to several locations in western Minnesota during the Great Depression until his father was offered a job as a longshoreman in San Francisco, California. Glenn graduated from high school and was drafted into the Untied States Army where he served in Korea and Japan. Upon returning to the United States, he visited his sister, Geneva, in Las Vegas and gained employment at the Three Kids Mine. There he also met his future wife, Ruth.
He then moved to Gabbs, Nevada, and then Yerington, Nevada, in 1953 after the Three Kids Mine was closed due to a fire. He and Ruth continued their relationship and were married on February 10, 1955, in Las Vegas. They resided in Yerington then Weed Heights. In 1962, the family moved to the farm in Mason Valley. Glenn worked for Anaconda from 1953 until 1979. After Anaconda closed he and Ruth lived in Las Vegas for a few months while he attended classes in slot machine repair and then lived in Darwin California where he worked for Anaconda and later for another company to keep the mine site in repair. He then moved back to his farm in 1990 where Glenn was living until his death.
Glenn was a member of the 20/30 Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in his younger years. He was an assistant leader for the Boy Scouts when his son was in scouting. Glenn was also a member of the Yerington Community United Methodist Church. He assisted with many projects from washing dishes after dinners to helping dig out under Spangler Hall to repair plumbing and painting Spangler Hall.
Glenn loved music and would often hum a tune when there was a lull in conversation. He sang in the church choir until his hearing became so impaired he was not able to hear the other members of the choir. He loved to garden and thought he should have planted a garden this year. He also loved getting out in the hills around Mason Valley and looking for pretty rocks or just exploring the desert.
Glenn was a tall man and stood 6'6". Some who did not know him well were intimidated by his height, but his family and friends will remember him as a gentle man who loved nature and his family.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Eleanor and Geneva, his brother Albert Earl, and his wife Ruth. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Storz (Don) of Fallon, Nevada, his son Thomas Stark (Teri) of Milwaukie, Oregon, two granddaughters, two great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
There will not be a memorial service due to Covid-19. Family are friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447 (775) 463-2911
