Obituary

Harold E. Asper passed away on Saturday morning, May 26, 2012 at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington, Nevada. He was 90.

Harold was born in Adams, Minnesota on October 8, 1921 the son of Bennie and Mattie (Olson) Asper. Harold was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army Air Force. He was a fighter pilot having flown over 76 missions in Normandy, Northern France and Germany, He had received the Distingished Flying Cross, EAME Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars, Victory Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon.

He lived over 15 years in Yerington and also had lived in the San Juan Islands in Washington. He was the Commander of the American Legion Post in Washington and also raised money for the post by holding an annual golf tournament known as the Asper Open. He enjoyed collecting including coins and books. In retirement he also enjoyed building his log home.

He is survived by his children, Duncan, Thomas, Mark and his wife, Sherry and Helen and her husband Don; his 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his brother, Myron and his wife Gloria and his sister Irene Hurd; aslo by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his 5 brothers, Bernard, Ozzie, Art, Bill and Maurice and his four sisters, Ruth, Myrtle, Alice and Madeline.

Harold's funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday, June 2nd, at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Burial will be with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery on Orcas Island, Washington.
