Obituary

Helen B. Thompson went to heaven peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 with her family by her side. A compassionate and caring wife and mother, she made a wonderful home for her family that they will always treasure. helen will be greatly missed, but never forgotten in our hearts.

Her loving and giving nature was not limited to her family. She gave generously to the Women of Mount Vernon Society, the Smithsonian Institute, the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and th eair Force Association. She was a lifelong supporter of the Ronald Reagan Library and Foundation and was named Donor of the Year for the Disabled and Paralyzed Veterans Association.

Helen was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Helen Schoening, immigrants from Kiel, Germany. Helen grew up in Chicago with her beloved young sister, Jean. Helen graduated from Fanger High and went on to take college classes at Northwestern University. she later took a position with United Airlines. As a member of the Tall Girls Club of Chicago she was invited to attend an Illinois Institute of Technology dance where she met her husband o be Kenneth Thompson. To the tunes of One enchanted Evening it was love at first sight. They were married on September 4, 1949 and moved to California start their lives together. Their marriage was blessed with four beautiful daughters, Linda, Kerry, Nancy and Cindy. Helen devoted her life in raising her daughters and supporting her husband in his professional career.

Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth of Yerington; daughters, Linda (David) Phipps of Ventura, CA; Kerry (Greg) Shultz of Three Rivers, CA; Nancy thompson of Buelton, CA; Cindy (Mark) Turner of Rancho Cardova, CA; grandsons, Jason Phipps and Dustin Shultz; granddaughters, Jennifer Freichs, Holly Hust, Korin Guerena, and Jessica Hust; great grandsons, Cody and Carter Phipps and great grandaughters, Elena Guerena and Autumn Frerichs.

Funeral service was held 2:00 pm sunday, October 29th, 2006 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington with Pastor Tom Walburn officiating. Graveside service was held on Monday, October 30th at 1:00 pm at the Live Oak Cemetery in Live Oak, California.
