Jack Mann passed away on Sunday afternoon, November 4, 2007 at Renown Medical Center, Reno. He was 60.
Born November 14, 1946, Allen Jackson Mann, Jr. in Escondido, California the son of Allen J. and Alice (Bowden)Mann. He graduated from Hemet High School in 1965. While in High School he participated in football and track. Competing in the California State Championship in the Discus. After graduation he attended Palomar College and worked in construction until his enlistment in the US Navy in 1966. He served four tours of duty in Vietnam between 1966 - 1969 aboard the USS Fletcher and the USS Southerland.
While visiting his Mom and Stepfather, Alice and Ed Gober he fell in love with Nevada and especially the Mason Valley and moved his family here in 1974.
He worked construction for Don Tibbals Construction and H.E. Hunewell Construction. He then worked for Renner Equipment and then as Shop Manager and Equipment Salesman for Lyon County Farm Supply.
The profession that brought him the greatest joy was FARMING. He was working foreman for the Lee Ivey Ranches, Inc. In March 2002 he took over the management of the Santa Margarita Ranch on the East Walker. He took pride in watching the ranch grow, and improving production from 600+ acres to 1300+ acres. His greatest achievement was the premium hay the ranch produces.
While his daughter, Michele participated in AQHA and AJQHA he was an active parent whether cooking tri-tips for fund raisers or hauling kids and horses to the various events around the country. He was also active in
4-H with his daughter. He served on the Lyon County Fair Board in charge of the tractor pulls. Always striving to improve and enlarge the event. While on the fair board he was able to assist and see the board improve the grounds and reach the goals of the new bleachers and see the bleachers covered.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie; their children, Michele Mann of Fort Collins, CO, Marcelline Harrison-Brinkley of Ruth, Nevada and Benjamin (Bart) Harrison of Sparks, Nevada; two grandchildren, Devlon Harrison and Becca Brinkley; his sisters, Barbara Ayers and Dale , Shirley and her husband David Hagadorn, Janey Smith, Edna and her husband Jim Gallacher, Betty and her husband Marvin Hillard; his brother Bill and his wife Barbara Gober; his brother in law Jim and his wife Deloris Schaub;also by numerous nieces and nephews and his uncles and aunts, Mel and Barbara Bowden of Yerington, Tom and Jeannie Bowden of Escondido, California and Marilyn Bowden of Libby, Montana. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Step-Father, Alice and Ed Gober, his Father, Allen Mann, his nephew Michael Gallacher and great niece, Alexandra "Beanie" Baker, and brother in law R. L. Smith.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada.
