Jean Sedore led a full, spirited life. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, she moved about the country, rearing her four children in California and Ohio. She could be fun and she could be feisty, but she loved life throughout. Among her passions were fishing, hunting, bowling and gardening. She loved all animals, but especially loved her late dog Susie. Whatever Jean did she put her heart and soul into.

One childhood memory her daughter, Cheryl, recalled fondly, was the time her mom took her four children out of school and took them fishing. She fished even when she wasn't supposed to, hiding a spool of fishing line under her arm to avoid detection. She had a happy-go-lucky, jovial outlook on life, Cheryl recalled. "If she loved, she loved large." Her Halloween parties were epic, Cheryl recalled.

Daughter, Judy, remembers the excitement of traveling cross country and Jean told her children if they wanted to stop any place, she would, "it didn't matter what, a river, lake, or carnivals to eat cotton candy and ride the merry-go-round, she stopped," per Judy's fond memories. Guy notes that Jean "could outwork most women and some men."

Dorothy Jean Semonian was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Santa Barbara. She died on Jan. 19, 2019, in Carson City, Nevada, after a sudden illness, surrounded by her family.

Jean dropped the name Dorothy and lived by the sur name of her late husband Merle Sedore. She was married to Rufus Lee Bynum when she had her first three children, Ronald James Bynum, in Charlotte, N.C., followed by Judy Lynn Bynum and Cheryl Ann Shanks, both of whom were born Santa Barbara. Jean later married Glen Grimes in Ohio, where their son, Guy Glen Grimes, was born.

Everyone who knew her loved and admired her grit and determination. Most people who knew her well knew of her generosity, spirit, moments of orneriness, and that she would help any of her friends whenever they needed it. She worked hard at supporting her family at various jobs, including driving a school bus for disabled students and owning a potato chip home delivery service called Mr. Chips."

After living most of her life in the Central Valley, she and Merle moved to Red Rock, a community north of Reno where they built a home and ranch before moving to Yerington, where they lived out their lives.

She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren three nieces and two nephews.

A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, March 16 ^th from 1 – 3 pm at the Yerington Senior Center, 117 Tilson Way, Yerington, Nevada.
