Longtime Smith Valley and Yerington resident Jere P. Giomi died Saturday afternoon, August 25, 2007 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno following injuries she received in a fall. She was 86.
Jere was born to Clarence and Frankie Patten in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 26, 1921. She was a Reno High School graduate in the class of 1939. She and her sweetheart, John F. Giomi enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage before he passed away seven years ago.
The Giomis moved to Smith Valley in 1950 where Jere and John were involved in a grocery store and also Giomi Bros. before moving to Yerington in 1972 where they owned and operated the local Ace Hardware store until retirement in 1997. At the time of her death, Jere was living at Sky Park in Reno where she had been a resident since 2001.
Jere was active in the American Legion, VFW Auxilliary and Democratic Women.
She is survived by her brother Dorman (Ginny) Patten of Reno; daughter, Pattie (Ron) Dohoney of Yerington; sons, Joe Giomi of Yerington and John (Pat) Giomi of Palm Desert, California; grandchildren, Dominic (Dina) of Hawthorne, Trevor of Fernley, Cheryl of Portland and Carrie of Yerington; former daughter - in - law Debbie Giomi of Yerington; brother - in - law Joe E. Giomi of Smith Valley; nieces Joann, Loretta, Diane and Kathryn and nephews Greg, Frank, Roy and Scott. Her husband John preceded her in death in 2000.
A Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm Thursday, August 30th at Holy Familty Catholic Churc 37 North West Street Yerington. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday, August 31st at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in the family plot at Valley View Cemetery.
