Obituary
Jimmie 'Jim' Palmer Torvik passed away on Easter Sunday evening, April 24, 2011 at his son's home in South Lake Tahoe, California. Jim was 86.
Jim was born in Richmond, California on August 11, 1924 the son of Norwegian immigrants John and Augusta Torvik. He attended Richmond Union High School with four life long friends and was the top hitter on the 1948 University of Pacific Tigers baseball team, securing the conference championship. In 1992 Jim was inducted into the College of Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame.
After college and serving as a Seabee in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II, he married his college sweetheart, Molly McGowan.
Jim was a devoted Father and craftsman. In 1968, he relocated with his family to western Nevada where he ultimately retired.
Jim is survived by his children, Susi and Frank Reynoso, John and Vella Torvik, Tom and Patricia Torvik and Kelly and Mike Garcia; nine grandchildren, Renee' (Rich), Dyanna (Jimmy), Desi, Tyson, Matthew, Molly, and Linzy; and three great grandchildren, Bryce, Jake and J.T.. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Molly, a brother, George and a grandson, James.
Jim's funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. A viewing will be held prior to the service 9:30 to 10:45 am. Burial with Military honors will be provided by the War Veterans Memorial Association of Western Nevada at the Missouri Flats Cemetery, Yerington. Pallbearers are John Torvik, Tom Torvik, Michael Garcia, Tyson Torvik, Matthew Torvik, Desi Reynoso and Jimmy Longoria. Honorary Pallbearer is Frank Reynoso.
