John Joseph Escobar II passed away at his home in Yerington, Nevada, on December 24, 2015. He was 84 years old.

John was born in Middletown, Rhode Island, the son of John Joseph Escobar and Filomena Viera DeMello. He grew up in Rhode Island, where after high school, he joined the Navy. While in the Navy, he met Helen Ann Marques at a laundromat and they married on May 2, 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island. After leaving the Navy, John worked for a lumber company while they raised the couple's four oldest children, John Joseph III, Janet Lee, Susan Jean and Ellen Marie. A couple of years later, John and Helen joined Helen's brother, Carlos Marques, in Fremont, California. Soon after arriving in Fremont, sons James Benjamin and Francis Anthony were born and John worked for Ohlone College, from where John retired after 30 years. In 1994, John and Helen followed their neighborhood friends from Fremont, Chuck and Janet Thomas, to Yerington, Nevada, where they made a lot of friends.
John enjoyed fishing and helping Al and Rita Clark on their farm. He was also active in the American Legion. After a serious stroke, John led a quiet life with his wife Helen and their daughter Susan, who had relocated to Yerington to care for her parents.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen; his children, John Joseph III and wife Stephanie, Janet Lee, Susan Jean, Ellen Marie and Kenny Bernard, James Benjamin and wife Victoria, and Francis Anthony; his sister Rose Fastino of Newport, Rhode Island; his grandchildren Adriana, Alex, Jason, Jeremy, Maria and Nicole and 5 great grandchildren.

John's Funeral service will be held with military honors 2:00 pm Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada
