John Warren Hamilton passed away Friday morning, January 23, 2009 at the Northern Nevada Hospital in Sparks. He was 81.
He was born in Southard, Oklahoma the son of John and Angie (Warren) Hamilton on August 13, 1927. John served in the United States Army during the later part of World War II. He resided in Eugene, Oregon for a number of years and raised two boys from a previous marriage. He was employed by B&W Construction in Oregon and transfered to Yerington to work at Fort Churchill Power Plant. While in Yerington he met and married Rena Brown on October 11, 1970. They made their home on the YPT reservation. He enjoyed and particiapated in Christmas and tribal functions. John held a chairmanship and board position for many years with the Yerington Paiute Housing Authority. He also worked in Hawthorne as a security guard until retirement. Shortly after retirement he became a medical courier for the hospital. Health problems halted his working days. He enjoyed working with rocks, planting trees and shrubs, making furniture and cooking.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 38 years Rena of Yerington; his sons, Richard of Ingleside, Texas and John of Arizona; his two grandsons, Stuart and Steve Hamilton; a great grandson; his sisters, Gail Brach of Lakewood, Colorado, Otillia Green of Medicine Lodge, Kansas and Johann Jacobs of Isabel, Kansas; numerous nephews and nieces; and he was a special Dad to Rose Brown of Gardnerville, NV; 'Grandpa to Staci Conti and her two sons, Benjamin and Kainan; Uncle John to Scott, Craig, Donald, Marlene, Jocelyn, Deon, Kendra, Carlos, Terrence and Donald III. John was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Zeta Chinn and Daphna Baessler and his brother, Bill.
John's funeral service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 31st at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Military honors and service will be provided by the American Legion Post #9. Burial wil be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.
