John Edmund McFarren passed away at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada on Thursday evening, March 20, 2008. He was 84.

John was born in Gibbon, Nebraska on June 9, 1923 the son of John R. and Lillian (Messick) McFarren.
He entered college but left early to join the service during World War II where he served in the United States Marine Corps. After his service to his country he worked as an Engineer in the Mining industry. He married Carmela Diaz November 8, 1958 in Mexico. They had lived in Yerington for over 18 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and mining. He even built his home in Yerington. He had been a member of the VFW. He was a person who would help anyone in need.

He is survived by his son, Tony and his wife Kathy, his daughter Betty and her husband Gary Landaker; his brother, Charles and sister, Dorothy Griffith and grandson, Michael McFarren; his brother-in-laws, Ramon Diaz and Roger Diaz and family; his sister-in-law, Elva Ison and family and numerous nieces and newphews including his great friend and nephew Jimmy Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carmela.

A memorial remebrance service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, April 5th at the Yerington Vineyard Church. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm Saturday at the Valley View Cemetery.
