Obituary

Following a lengthy illness John Harvey Neill was called home by his Heavenly Father on March 22, 2007. Harvey, as known by his family and friends leaves behind a legacy of four loving children, Susan, John, Theresa and Cathy and their spouses, Ron, Susie, Louie and Eric and nine precious grandchildren, Leasa, Amanda, Nicole, Nick, Jake, Cassidy, Vincent, Zachary and Brooke.

He was born in North Hollywood, California on January 24, 1936. At the age of 11, Harvey and his family moved to Smith Valley where he made his home for the past 60 years. Following in the footsteps of his father, Harvey entered into ranching and farming after getting a degree in animal science from Colorado State University. After 17 years, Harvey sold the ranch and went to work for the US Department of Agriculture where he was the County Executive Director of FSA in Minden, Nevada.

Harvey was small in stature, but a gaint in character. He was a man of great faith, and devoted to his family, friends and country. He loved the outdoor life and spent many days hunting and fishing and enjoying the wide open spaces. He loved nothing more than sitting around the campfire strumming his guitar and singing old counrty western songs. Harvey will be truly missed by the many who had the privilege to know him.

A celebration of his life will be as follows, a Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, March 29th at St. John's Catholic Church in Smith with a Funeral Mass held 10:00 am Friday, March 30th at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 N. West Street in Yerington. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith. A reception will be held following the burial.

Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Association.
