IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph William
Tibbals
July 5, 1929 – October 25, 2019
Joseph William Tibbals slipped peacefully from this life into the arms of a loving Lord and Savior on Friday, October 25, 2019 at his home in Yerington with his wife, Carol by his side. He was 90.
Joe was born in Glendale, California on July 5, 1929 the son of Walter and Mildred (Humphrey) Tibbals. He grew up in Bishop, California where his Father had a butcher shop and raised his own beef. From a young age Joe loved cattle and horses and became expert in training and competing on cutting horses with a record of winning over several decades.
He moved to Mason Valley in 1951 where he and his brother, Don built Yerington's first trailer park using nothing more than shovels and a lot of sweat. They spent their first winter in a tent, following the simple building code of "keep six feet between the water and sewer lines".
Joe started ranching in the valley and is remembered as the first farmer who started using sulfuric acid to convert alkali ground to crop ground. He was 'Farmer of the Year' in the 1970's. He expanded his farming operation with the help of his two sons, Joe and Walt. As a farmer Joe had the instincts of an artist, freely mixing the brush and willows that Carol loved with the fields he planted in hay. Joe and Carol also expanded his family operation and adopted four children who went from city life to milking the family cow to bragging today that they were "raised on a farm".
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children, 'Little" Joe, Walter, Brock, Robert, Bryon and Michelle; his 101 year old sister, Barbara Beal; his 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susie, his brother, Don, his sisters, Helen Holland and Margaret McLeod.
Joe's funeral will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 16th at the Yerington Vineyard Fellowship Church, 307 Broadway Avenue Yerington with a reception to follow the service at the Pioneer Crossing Convention Center 111 North Main Street. Burial will be held at the Elm Tree Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net, also sympathy cards can be sent to Carol directly from this site.
