Katherine Agnetta Hansen Mattson, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Regent Care Center in Reno, Nevada.

She was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on November 17, 1923 to George and Lydia (Foreman) Hansen. She is the second eldest of five children born to the couple.

Katherine married Sydney Mattson in Winnemucca, Nevada in 1941. A son, Keith, was born to them. They lived in various places: Winnemucca, Nevada; Alexandria, Louisiana; Oakland, California; Tungsten, Nevada; and Yerington, Nevada. Syd retired in Yerington from Anaconda Mining Company and the RC Food Center. Syd passed away in 2000 following a stroke. Katherine lived in their home until 2003. She sold the home and moved to Reno to be closer to her son and his family. Katherine enjoyed family gatherings and her friends both in Yerington and in Reno.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill, sister Betty Jean, and her husband Syd. She is survived by her son, Keith, her daughter-in-law, Bonnie, and their two children, Kevin (Paul) and Kerry (Tyler). She also had two great-granddaughters, Mikayla and Cassidy, step-great grandchildren, LaRissa, Trenton, Taylor and Dylan, and one great-great grandson, Bentley. Also survived by her two siblings, Merlyn (Wanda) and Bernice and her sister-in-law, Judy Hansen; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a caring, loving, gentle person who volunteered to help whenever she saw a need. She was a long time member of the Queen of the Valley Rebekah Lodge and the South Lyon Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary holding many offices in both organizations. She did volunteer work at the hospital for many years working for the patients in the Dr. Mary Wing as well as throughout the hospital.

Katherine will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Regent Care Center for their loving care for the past two years and also Gentiva Hospice staff especially Chauncie, Kathy, Denise, Karen, Jim and the others who served Katherine's needs. You all made it easier for her and her family.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada.
