Kenneth Benson Mitchell passed away at his home early Saturday morning, April 24, 2010. He was 86.
Ken was born in Parowan, Utah on June 8, 1923 the son of Frank Carlyle and Phoebe Jane (Benson) Mitchell. He was raised in Parowan and graduated from Parowan High School. He was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Artillery Division from 1942-46 with a tour in Europe.
He married LaRue Barton in 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ken worked very hard all of his life retiring from Anaconda Copper and then working for the Yerington Irrigation District until just 6 years ago stepping down at the age of 80.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 63 years, LaRue; their four sons, Kenneth Dale of Fernley, Nevada, Mark Russell (Boots) of Reno, Nevada, Frank Anthony (Debbie) of Sandy, Utah and Austin Cash (Kim) of Reno, Nevada, Ken's four sisters, Maytha Boardman, Roena Benson, Betty Lou Schoppman,and Nola Palmar; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carlyle.
Ken's funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 1st, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 600 North Oregon Street Yerington. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post #9 will be at Valley View Cemetery.
