On Thursday, January 2, 2014, LaRue Barton Mitchell passed away at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, Reno, Nevada.

LaRue was born in Parowan, Utah, on August 4, 1929, to Austin and Rosella Barton. She was the fourth of nine children and grew up in Paragonah, Utah, on her family's farm. In 1946 she married Kenneth Mitchell in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in 1952 they moved to Yerington, Nevada. After Kenneth's passing in 2010, she moved to Reno, Nevada.

LaRue worked at Thrifty Market and volunteered at the Senior Center in Yerington, but her favorite job was being a homemaker and raising their four boys. She was a devoted wife for over 63 years, proud mother, loving grandmother, and always put her family first. She relished being surrounded by her boys, having a houseful of family, kids running in and out, holiday dinners, and making sure everyone felt at home. LaRue was fiercely independent and feisty, but her heart was full of love and she was always taking care of others.

LaRue is preceded in death by her parents and Kenneth, her loving husband of almost 64 years, and seven of her eight siblings: Dorothy Diel, Hanks, Bill, Mark, Lynn, Rose Ann Mickelson, Vesta Rae Burt. She is survived by sons, Dale, Fernley, NV; Russ (Boots), Reno, NV; Tony (Debbie), Sandy, UT; and Cash (Kim), Reno, NV; sister Kathleen Orton of Salt Lake City, UT; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel located at 600 North Oregon Street, Yerington, NV, with a private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite Veteran charity.
