Lawrence Mitchell, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nevada He was 74.
Lawrence was born in Schurz, Nevada on July 4, 1938 the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Jackson) Mitchell.
Lawrence was known by his friends as "Mitch" or "Larry". He attended Yerington schools and graduated in 1957 and was an outstanding 4-year letterman baseball pitcher. He was an enrolled member of the Yerington Paiute Tribe.
During his early years he was manager of the "pool hall' which was operated by the Hornbuckle family. After high school Lawrence was employed with the Lyon County School District (Intermediate school) for many years. Before his health began to decline, Lawrence enjoyed many outdoor activities. He had a great passion for photography. He traveled throughout Nevada photographing outdoor scenery and the like, which he has a huge collection of. Each year he activiley participated and entered his photos in the Lyon County Fair & Rodeo and was honored with many first place awards. His work has been displayed at the Lyon County Museum. Lawrence was an avid music lover of all varieties and he also began to play guitar.
He is survived by his brother, Leidy "Sharkey" Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service for Lawrence will be held graveside 11:00 am on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Yerington Paiute Cemetery in Yerington.
