Obituary

Leota Marie Shipley passed away on Friday morning, February 2, 2007 at the South Lyon Medical Center Long Term Care, Yerington. She was 98.

She was born in Huntington Beach, California on January 5, 1909 the second of four children to Arthur and Bertha (Bush) Garner. As a yound child she moved with her parents to Bishop, California where she attended school, she was an outstanding student. In 1927 she married Clarence Shipley. Times were very difficult for them in Owens Valley because the depression was in full swing and that the city of Los Angeles had bought up the water rights. They decided to move to the Mason Valley in 1930 where they had hoped to get work in the agriculture industry. The first few years was difficult but eventually the economics improved. In 1940 Leota moved into her 'new' home where she spent the majority of her life. She was active and proud of her yard, was a member of the Homemakers Organization and had served as president several times. She loved loved to travel and to do needlepoint.

She is survived by her son Arthur of Yerington; 3 grandchildren Paris of Gardnerville, Troy and Monique Herbst both of Reno; four great grandchildren. She was preced in death by her daughter, Lorraine.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 9th at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Burial was in the Masonic Memorial Cemetery.
