Obituary
Lois W. Madden passed away on Monday evening, August 16, 2010 at the South Lyon Medical Center, Long Term Care in Yerington, Nevada. She was 95.
Lois was born in Alta, Iowa on July 19, 1915 the daughter of Louis and Christine (Reese) Kraemer. She graduated from Fairview School in Alta and then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, she transfered to the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Business. She taught school in Iowa for three years. She married Gerald L. Madden of Armstrong, Iowa on June 14, 1940. They bought a farm near Ringsted, Iowa and moved to it in 1944. In 1950 they moved to Yerington, Nevada. In Yerington Lois took a job at the high school when they needed a business teacher, intending to stay only one year, however, she stayed as a Math and Business teacher retiring after 25 years. After retirement she stayed busy with local clubs and her church also serving as an officer in many of the organizations. Lois also enjoyed creating Christmas tree pictures using costume jewelry and designing quilts. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Gerald to many places in North America and to many countries around the world. She enjoyed giving slide shows and exhibit souvenirs of places they had been.
Lois is survived by her two children, John and his wife Bonita Madden of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ann and Harry Smith of Yerington, Nevada; her grandchildren, Erica Gayle Stubbs and Hallie Ann McMullen; her great grandchildren, Abby and Audrey Stubbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister and her husband, Gerald who passed away January 8, 2009.
In keeping with her wishes no local service will be held. Her cremated remains along with her husband's remains will be buried in the family plot in Iowa at a later date.
