Obituary

Madeline Montelatici , 82, passed away from heart and pulmonary issues on January 28, 2020 with her daughters by her side.

Madeline was born on August 31, 1937 in Reno to Marion and Burr MacKenzie.  She was the third child of five and the first to be born on the west coast when her parents moved from Washington DC to own and work a ranch in Yerington, Nevada.

Madeline is preceded in death by her husband Norman Montelatici; her parents Marion and Burr MacKenzie; and her brothers Al, Fred and Andy.   Madeline is survived by her daughters Malinda Pope (Jeff); Brenda Ward; grandchildren Breanna and Colten Ward ; and sister Mary Lou; and six nieces and one nephew.

Madeline defined the word "classy" with her impeccable appearance with never a hair out of place yet was one of the most personable people around with a gift to talk to anyone about anything for lengths at a time.  She brought sparkle and joy to any situation.  Growing up with 4 siblings on a ranch and attending Barret school, a one room 1-8 th grade schoolhouse, made Madeline the down-to-earth person that she was. She graduated from Yerington High School in 1955 and attended UNR for a brief period of time where she pledged the Gamma Phi sorority.  She returned to Yerington to work for her brother Al at Mackenzie Insurance.  She knew Norman in high school and re-connected with him once she moved back to Yerington.  Enamored with each other, they were married on Feb.15, 1959.

Madeline and Norman had two daughters, Malinda and Brenda while living in the Meadow Park neighborhood.  Madeline was a homemaker while Norman worked and later owned Lyon Market.  Meadow Park was the greatest place for a child to grow up with awesome families and dozens of kids to play with.  Madeline was a dedicated mom who provided a great home life for her family from birthday parties and family dinners to being a "room mother" every year helping out with classroom parties and activities.

Once Malinda and Brenda were older, Madeline became an avid golfer and joined the Mason Valley Women's Golf club where she proceeded to hit the ball as far as the men and was a wanted member of every scramble golf tournament.  Madeline and Norman traveled on many golf trips with a beloved group of friends.  Madeline, Janice Frade, Barbara Shipley, and Clarice Lommori also enjoyed birthday lunch trips to Fallon where they would eat at the bakery and shop at Walmart.

Madeline was one-of-a-kind lady always driving a Cadillac that was kept immaculately clean with MADSCAD license plate, getting her hair done every Wednesday and enjoying frequent shopping trips to Reno.  Norman commented that he wanted to be buried at the entrance of Macy's so that Madeline would come visit him after he was gone.

Funeral services will be held on February 15 th at 11:00 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Yerington with a reception to follow at the Catholic Center.  Because Shriners had a big impact on her granddaughter after a horse riding accident, a donation to the hospital if so desired would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
