Obituary

Margaret Ann Higgins-Kennison passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada after her long battle with cancer. She was 79.

Margaret 'Grandma' was born on April 19, 1929 in Mason Valley, Nevada in the traditional way the daughter of Amy and Louis Higgins. She lived in Schurz her entire life and was the only girl with four brothers, Ed Higgins, Willow Higgins, Alfred Higgins and Woodrow (Uncle Woody) Higgins. She attended school at the Stewart Indian School and over the years worked as a bartender and a Nanny. She was very proud of assisting in building her home. She loved to spend time outdoors in her yard, but her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Once her great grandchildren were born she became 'Big-G" (Big Grandma). She was a member of the Schurz United Methodist Church and often attended the Walker River Baptist Church where she loved the singing and the feelings she had there, she said it was her home away from home. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma in April 2008 and went through chemotherapy through August 2008. She was in remission and on her way to recovery when she was diagnosed again in February 2009.

She is survived by her children, Arnold Quartz, Rose Quartz, John Kennison, Viola Kennison, Danie Kennison and Louis Kennison; her grandchildren, Jessica Quartz, Allison Conner, Rhonda Medicine Crow, Karrie-Ann Quartz, Cheryl Conway-Quartz, Weetah Kennison, Jess Mark Kennison, Jasmine Kennison, Caleb Steinberg-Kennison, Ruby, Pamogo, Bahish Kennison-Fox, Delpha and Amy Kennison; great grandchildren, Cedrick Conway, Sarah Beau, Joy and Mercy Medicine Crow, Tomono Jim, Gabriel Vasquez, Ignacio Kennison, Kierra Dini-Kennison, and Alberto "AJ" Lopez. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ed, Willow and Alfred; her daughter, Delpha Kennison and Grandson Cody 'Bill' William Quartz. We will miss your elegence, your strength, your boldness and your honesty. We Love you!
