Obituary

Margaret Adeline Miller Parsons, passed away on May 14, 2018, the way she lived, with grace, dignity and faith, in the very home where she was born.

The eldest of four children, Margaret was born in Smith Valley, Nevada, on April 17, 1925 to Alexander Miller, who was born in the Russian Federation and immigrated to the United States from Germany, and Laura Mae Dickinson Miller, whose pioneer parents came to Smith Valley in the 1880's.

She was delivered at home by the famous Dr. Mary Fulstone, a distinguished Nevadan who practiced country medicine in the area for more than six decades. Margaret graduated from Smith Valley High School in 1943, earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration at Sacramento State Business College, and worked briefly in the San Francisco Business District. During World War II she was in charge of mail services at the Sierra Army Depot, an ammunition storage facility located near Herlong, California, until she married Eugene Titus and moved to Anchorage , Alaska. After World War II, she and Eugene moved to Bucks County, in his home state of Pennsylvania, where she raised four children and worked in the upholstery business.

In 1965, she married Frank Powel Parsons. They moved back home to her beloved Smith Valley in 1970. She joyfully resumed an active membership in the congregation and choir of the Smith Valley Methodist Church, the little church that she and her siblings attended as children and where her mother taught Sunday School and played the organ.

She lavished time and loving attention on her 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and the many children of Smith Valley who called her "Nanna," while volunteering in elementary and church summer school programs and sharing her lifelong passion for collecting dolls, including founding Nanna's Doll House Museum in Smith Valley, which was free and open to the public where she enjoyed hosting tea parties.

She was known for her faith, her affinity for children, her love of Nevada and its history, and her lifelong belief that everyone has a good side.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Laura, her husband, Frank, her brother, Edmund Miller, her sister Lauralee Miller Bennett, and her son Eugene Jones (EJ) Titus. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Miller Russell, daughters, Laura Miller, Wendy Soberg, and Assemblywoman Dr. Robin Titus and her husband Allen Veil, in addition to those many loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces , nephews, and cousins.
