Marge Pellegrini passed away at Renown Health Center in Reno on Monday after a brief illness. She was 83 and a lifelong resident of Yerington.
Marge was born in Wabuska on March 24, 1924. She was the eldest child of Tony and Emma Wilslef Glock. As a small child she moved with her parents to the south end of the valley where the family bought the old Roy McGowan Ranch. The family eventually purchased the Wise Ranch and spent the next forty years raising alfalfa, dairy cows and an occasional crop of potatoes. Twice each day there were cows to milk and countless ranch and household chores that required everyone to pitch in. Never one to stand aside when there was work to do, Marge was an ever willing source of encouragement and help to her parents through all the hard work and heartbreak incumbent upon operators of family farms.
Marge married Bill Pellegrini in 1942 and later they had two sons, Steve and Rod. She worked for various Yerington businesses as a secretary after her marriage to Bill. Out of high school she took employment at the Extension Service office but soon left to work for Franklin Koehler and Jim O'Connor. Eventually she worked as a bookkeeper for both the Mason Valley Hardware and the Crescent Garage. In 1973 she took her last job as Principal's Secretary at Yerington High School. She most fondly remembered this job and the friends she made while working there.
Marge's passion in life was her family – her parents, siblings, sons and, later, her grandchildren. She was unfailing in her unselfishness and eagerness to always sacrifice her own needs if she could help them in some way. Her unflinching dedication to her children and grandchildren will forever serve as an example of how best to treat others.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters Ethel Hall and Eleanor Lommori. She is survived by brother Don of Sparks, sons Steve and Rod, daughter-in-law Debbie, and grandchildren Aaron, Evan, Julien, Carissa and Stephanie all of Yerington.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home. A service is planned for this Friday afternoon at 3:00 at the funeral home chapel. The family has requested that, instead of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mom
We saw the sun this morning
For the first time without you
This valley you loved
The Greenwood Ditch where you played
As a child
And this ashen dawn
And the rain that cried
On our roof last night
Are hollow and meaningless
Without you
There is a place at our table
And in our hearts
Where you will always be
To us you are this place
All the good things it has been
Freshly mown hay
The chunk of a bailer
Brown water in an irrigation ditch
And amber light on cottonwood bark
These, in our day, we will see
And remember you.
