IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn E.
Brinkley
January 28, 1932 – July 17, 2019
Marilyn E. Brinkley, 87, passed away peacefully in Yerington, NV on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019 at South Lyon Medical Center-Long Term Care Facility.
Marilyn was a humble, kind and loving soul with a joyous smile that will be deeply missed. She faced a long battle with a condition that impacted her memory and daily abilities but we are grateful that the love and pride she had for her family and friends was never lost.
Marilyn was born on January 28 th , 1932 in Creighton, Nebraska to Daniel and Lorraine Scheinost. She had one brother, Richard Scheinost, who she helped raise after the passing of her mother at the young age of 12. Marilyn married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Brinkley, on January 1 st , 1953 in Las Vegas, NV. Always the caretaker she was a stay at home mother who raised four children in La Mirada, California. Once her children were grown her desire to care for others was fulfilled when she worked at the Crescent Park Convalescent Home in California as a nursing aide for eight years. In 1973 Marilyn and her husband came to Yerington, NV to visit her brother and sister-in-law and they described the valley as "God's Country". Knowing Yerington, NV would be their forever home they moved that same year where they raised their family and became business owners of "Bob's Broasted Chicken". They owned the restaurant for 14 years and although it was named after her husband Bob, Marilyn was the hard working driving force that kept it successful. Marilyn was an excellent cook with a strong work ethic who poured her time and energy into the business. Together they were proud of the business they built and the community they lived in, but what brought Marilyn the most joy was cooking alongside her family and visiting with customers, who instantly loved her warmth and became lifelong friends.
Once they closed the business to enjoy retirement Marilyn realized she missed cooking and serving others so she worked as a cook at the South Lyon Medical Center for six years.
Marilyn loved everything about cooking and how it brought her family and friends together. Marilyn was also an avid photographer and her love for taking pictures started in High School and never stopped. Marilyn loved to make people laugh by telling jokes and would often giggle before she could deliver the punch-line. She didn't have many jokes, four in total, but because her laughter was so infectious it made everyone else laugh right along with her. Time spent visiting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her endless joy. Marilyn frequently made time to drive around the valley, likely over the speed limit, and stopped in for a cup of tea to visit with her loved ones. Marilyn would announce her arrival with a whistle at the front door and her soft voice saying "Yoohoo…anybody home?" you knew then that it was time to discuss family, share recipes, hear one of the four jokes and be showered with laughter, love and affection. Marilyn loved to write and for as long as she was able she never missed an opportunity to send a birthday card with a handwritten note.
Marilyn looked forward to the annual camping trip to Twin Lakes, CA. For 35 years her California and Nevada families would come together; her brother, nieces, their spouses and children spent hours laughing and telling stories, fishing, boating, hiking and playing in the water brought her endless joy and cherished memories.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Donna Pierce, son James "Jim" Brinkley, his wife Kay her daughter Cheryl Goffinet and her husband Lonnie Goffinet. Brother and sister-in-law Chuck and Donna Brinkley, sister-in-law Rose Scheinost, several nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. There are so many loved ones and friends it's hard to list each of you by name, but know that she shared your pictures with everyone and told stories about each of you with delight and pride. Marilyn would want you to remember that she loved each and every one of you very much.
When Marilyn entered eternal life she would be reunited with several family and friends that she missed deeply. She was preceded by her; Mother and Father Daniel and Lorraine Scheinost, her mother and father in-law Paul and Ruby Price, her husband of 56 years Robert "Bob" Brinkley, her brother Richard Scheinost and her beloved son Douglas "Doug" Brinkley.
Marilyn's wishes will be fulfilled by having a small gathering of family and friends at her final resting place at the Valley View Cemetery on Saturday, August 3 rd , 2019 at 11:00am. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Yerington Methodist Church at 221 N. Main Street, Yerington NV. Family and Friends are invited to sign her online guest book at www.FRFH.net
