Obituary

Martin William Petersen passed away late Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008 at his home in Smith. He was 69.

Martin was born in Reno on August 23, 1939 the son of William and Catherine (Martin) Petersen. He grew up in Austin, Nevada where he attended Austin High School. Martin moved to Reno where graduated from UNR. Martin married Norma Fenili on June 17, 1962. In 1972 they moved the family to Smith Valley where he lived for 36 years. Martin was a proud Rotary member for over 32 years, he was also head of the Community Hall Board for over 20 years and had served on the Lyon County School Board and was a member of the People for the West. Martin lived for his family and loved to restore classic cars. He has also been part of NHRA for 20 years as the biggest drag racing fan ever. His pride and joy was the Smith Valley Fun Day Car Show that he created and ran for 17 years. Martin stood for 'Pride', 'Integrity','Love of his family' and 'Love of his community'. Martin was the best husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 46 loving years, Norma of Smith Valley; his daughter, Tina and her husband Jim Smith of Smith Valley; his son, Eric and his wife Karen Petersen of Reno; and his grandchildren, Erica Smith, Arianne Smith, Sarah Smith, John Smith all of Smith Valley and Jessica Petersen of Reno. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, September 16th, at the Smith Valley Community Hall.
