Mary McCarthy Williams passed in Yerington early Friday morning, October 24, 2008. She was 88.

Mary was born April 4, 1920 on the family farm east of Sidney, Nebraska the daughter of George and Norine (Hannen) Kavanaugh. She attended St. Patrick's School in Sidney and worked at a bank until she married Joseph McCarthy on august 24, 1941. To this union four children were born. Joe and Mary resided in Deuel and Garden county Nebraska where they farmed. In 1963 they moved to Lodgepole, NE. Joe McCarthy passed away December 25, 1977. Mary worked at the local cafe in Lodgepole for many years. After Joe passed she married Fay Ira Williams who was from Chappell, NE and they resided on the farm south of Chappell. Mr. Williams passed away on March 13, 1996.

Mary is survived by her children, Barbara and her special friend Vern of Yerington, Stephen McCarthy of Yerington, Michael McCarthy of Reno and Pat and her husband Bill Pickerel of Torrington, Wyoming; six grandsons, Joshua Rudolf, Eric and Tyler McCarthy, J.W., Daniel and Benjamin Pickerel; one great grandson and two great granddaughters, with another great granddaughter due in November. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Genevieve and her husband Gilbert Helfrich, her husbands and a nephew, Gilbert, Jr..

A Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 28th at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 North West Street Yerington and the Memorial Mass will be held 9:30 am Wednesday, October 29th at the Church. The inurnment will be at a later date in Sidney, Nebraska.
