Mary Anne Reavis passed away at Marquis Centennial Friendship House Memory Care on July 19, 2015. She was 84.
Mary was born in Livermore, Iowa on November 22, 1930 to Norman & Mayme (Pooch) Scott. She was their third child following her brothers Cecil & Gordon. Mary grew up in Livermore graduating from high school in 1948. In September 1948 Mary entered nursing school with training that included assignments on wards for psychiatric treatment & to nurse patients on a polio ward. Mary earned her nursing cap in 1951. In 1958 Mary enlisted in the Air Force Nursing Corps. She was in active service for two years with one year being assigned to a base in France. In 1960 Mary moved from active duty to becoming part of the Air Force Reserves. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. Mary enjoyed being a nurse & moved up from working on wards to working in the operating room. Her nursing skills were acknowledged & acted as lead surgical nurse in various hospitals. Mary was part of pioneer surgical teams working on the early kidney & heart transplants. She was most proud of being given the opportunity to work with a surgical team that performed one of the first liver transplants performed in the United States. Mary continued to be active using her nursing skills working as a part-time nurse for the South Lyon Medical Center & then as a visiting nurse for Home Heath of Nevada. Mary retired from nursing in 2007.
Mary married the "love of her life", Robert (Bob) Reavis on July 5, 1963 in Crestview, Florida. Bob was an Air Force Captain. They lived in many different states until Bob retired from military service in 1970. Mary & Bob enjoyed traveling around the world & all 50 of the United States. They shared a passion for fishing, playing golf together & dancing. In 1991 they moved to Yerington, Nevada. Although Bob & Mary never had children of their own, Mary enjoyed spending time with Bob's daughter & son from his first marriage. She especially enjoyed getting to visit with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Much to her sadness Bob died on October 1, 2012 nine months short of their 50th anniversary.
Since Mary's own health was declining, Mary moved to Oregon in November 2012 to live close to Bob's daughter. At first she lived in an assisted living. However, due to a serious change for the worse in her health in July 2014 she moved to Marquis Centennial Friendship House Memory Care.
